Letter From Our President

Winter arrived officially and brought a blizzard with it. It was very cold, very windy and 16" of snow, more in some locales. At least it covered up the icy crust. However, more rain is forecast on Dec. 23rd and 28th.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and lots of contacts in 2009.

Our Christmas Potluck on December 14th (postponed from the 9th when there was a snowstorm) was well attended (14). Stan Flagg attended and learned about Hughes Net satellite service from N7GLR, of interest for Can-Am. There was a variety of good food contributed, and when we started eating. the lively conversations stopped abruptly. As always, the gift exchange was fun. There were three door prizes. There was a Christmas arrangement from Pelletier Florist, a bag of pancake and crepe mixes and cocoa, and a box of three Thomas Kincaid Christmas ornaments.

During the Christmas gathering, we congratulated K1FTK on his Maine win during the CQ160 SSB contest last February. He made 165 contacts.

Sky Warn Appreciation Day was held on December 5 & 6. N1FG was at the Caribou Weather Service. The Echolink contacts were hard to come by because of pileups on the conference servers. N1FG was trying hard to get the "Whole Gale Certificate." The needed 31st contact took two hours to make. It was made via a relay from a mobile station through a repeater to the Seattle NWS.

It is already time to think about Can-Am. It will start February 28, 2009. If you can help, please contact me.

Note: There is no page 2 or 3 this time, but page 4 is.
